Rex Baker

Rex Baker was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and raised in Greencastle, Indiana. He was graduated from Hanover College in 1979 with a B.A. in psychology. He completed his law degree from Western State University in 1986, where he graduated 17th out a class of 150 and was a member of the Western State University Law Review.

Since 1986, his entire legal career has been devoted to representing injured individuals in personal injury claims, medical malpractice, including hospital and nursing home negligence. He has represented clients with all types of injuries, including paralysis and death. Before partnering with Caroline Gilchrist, he spent 13 years as an associate and partner at one of the most prestigious personal injury firms in Indianapolis. He is the author of several articles, including “Has the Comparative Fault Act Abolished Incurred Risk” in Res Gestae magazine and was a contributing author to Indiana Personal Injury and Torts, a treatise for other attorneys.

Rex was also an Adjunct Associate Professor at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis, where he taught evidence among other courses. He was an arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau and a graduate of the National College of Advocacy and was a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association (Executive Committee, Litigation Section), Indiana State and American Bar Associations, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Indiana Trial Lawyers of America, and the Christian Legal Society.

Rex has appealed numerous cases and has represented clients before the Indiana Court of Appeals and the Indiana Supreme Court.

Rex has represented clients resulting from almost every conceivable situation, including the following:

  • Medical malpractice claims involving medical negligence during arthroscopic cholocystecomy, negligent medication, misdiagnosis or failure to diagnose cancer, lung disease, negligent diagnosis of peritonitis following surgery, understaffed nursing care resulting in the death of an infant, negligence during labor and delivery resulting in permanent brain injury to an infant, negligent surgical care and wrongful death due to failure to diagnose heart attack or properly treat a heart attack victim, negligent technique during orthopaedic surgery, as well as other factual situations.
  • Construction site injuries. These claims involve workers who are injured during commercial construction projects as a result of the negligence of their own employer or the general contractor. Rex has represented clients who have been seriously and/or permanently injured from falls and represented families as a result of the death of a construction worker due to negligence during a construction project.
  • Sexual harassment. There are various Federal laws which protect employees, both male and female, from sexual harassment on a job, and Rex has successfully prosecuted employers for both age and sexual discrimination.

  • Nursing Home injuries. These claims include bed sores, broken bones, burns, or other injuries due to negligent care or understaffing while a resident.
