Caroline Gilchrist is a partner in the firm of Baker & Gilchrist, with their offices in Avon, Indiana. Rex Baker and Caroline formed Baker & Gilchrist in 1999 in an effort to form a practice that represents individuals in a manner consistent with their beliefs and goals. An attorney since 1982, Caroline’s primary focus is in litigation and she practices primarily in the areas of personal injury and medical malpractice. She is both a Certified Family Law Mediator (1987) and a Certified Civil Law Mediator (1993).

For the last several years, Caroline Gilchrist has represented individuals who have suffered injury, such as those as a result of an accident or by medical malpractice. However, several years prior, she also represented physicians and health care providers which provided her with an understanding of the defense attorneys’ and insurance companies’ thought process. Caroline has mediated personal injury cases and served as a Medical Review Panel Chair in medical negligence cases.

Caroline has appealed numerous cases and represented clients before the Indiana Court of Appeals and Indiana Supreme Court.

Caroline Gilchrist obtained her Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, in 1979 from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. She then received her law degree in 1982 from the Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana. While in law school, she served as a note editor on the Board of Editors of the Indiana Law Journal and published an article entitled “Decision Making for the Incompetent Terminally Ill Patient: A Compromise in a Solution Eliminates: A Compromise of Patient’s Rights.” Caroline was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1982.

Caroline Gilchrist is a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association and has participated in several different state committees. She is a sustaining member of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association. Caroline has presented or participated in the planning of in numerous seminars over the years, including “Medical Malpractice,” ICLEF, 2000, "To Oz and Back: Tips for handling the difficult client in mediation," "Case Law Update," ICLEF, 2004, “Women in the Law Conference,” 2001, 2004, 2006, and numerous one-hour presentations for state and local bar meetings.

Caroline Gilchrist has been ICLEF’s primary trainer for the forty (40) hour Basic Family Mediation Training since 1999 and she has participated in numerous other continuing legal education presentations relating to mediation, including the following: “Successful Mediation: A Practitioner’s Guide to Mediation Preparation,” ICLEF, 1994; “Advanced Family Mediation Training,” The Indiana Lawyer, CLE Division, 1996; panel presenter on mediation at two Indianapolis Bar Association Bench Bar Conferences, French Lick, 1997 and 1999; and, associate trainer for Civil Mediation Basic Training, February 1998. She has mediated for the Department of Education, Special Education Division, for several years. She has been a speaker on the subject of negotiation and mediation techniques for a variety of groups.

Caroline is married and has two sons. She is involved in women's ministry and bible studies
