In a study published by The Injury and Violence Prevention Program of the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH):

  • More than 10,000 fatalities resulted from injury, which accounted for 6 percent of all deaths in Indiana.

In Indiana, more than 156,000 thousand nonfatal injuries and illnesses were reported in private industry workplaces. Men accounted for 90 percent of the occupational injuries in Indiana.

In another study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) that looked at traumatic brain injury (TBI) caused by a blow or jolt to the head or a penetrating head injury that disrupts the normal function of the brain concluded.

Of the 1.4 million who sustain a TBI each year in the United States:

  • 50,000 die.
  • 235,000 are hospitalized.
